When you call a moving company and ask them to provide you with an estimate for how much it will cost to move all your belongings, many factors are taken into consideration. You may think that the estimate is based solely on how many boxes or pieces of furniture you intend to move, but that it is only one part of it. Your movers must also calculate distance, the weight of the boxes and furniture, and what type of truck will need to be used. Some areas only allow access for smaller trucks — that means if you have a large amount of items to move, it may have to be picked up in a large truck and then transferred to smaller trucks to be delivered, or vice-versa. You will receive a more accurate estimate if you have someone actually come to look at all your belongings that will need to be moved.
